ecological restoration
I provide expert opinion and I design studies to enable to restoration of severely disturbed ecosystems. I also develop restoration and management plans with stakeholders.
Ecological restoration is defined as the process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged, or destroyed (SER 2019). Colleagues and I discuss these concepts in a Canadian context here.

Small-scale experiments help to optimize restoration protocols. Here, a student and I tested whether existing restoration protocols developed in southern Canada could be simplified to restore disturbed peatlands in the subarctic.

Local collection of seeds is increasingly sought to restore damaged lands. A student and I developed a seed collection guide for common upland plants in northeastern Canada. We also developed an approach to prioritize and value the collection of wild seeds.
